Residents in coastal areas will undergo evacuation measures to ensure their safety, and all necessary actions will be taken to support operations in the affected regions.

Omani Authorities Declare Holidays Due to Cyclone Tej

The Dhofar Governorate and the Al Wusta Governorate's Wilayat of Al Jazir have declared October 23–24 official vacations for public and private sector personnel due to unfavorable weather conditions brought on by Cyclone Tej.

Cyclone Tej Approaching Category 3

Satellite images from the National Multi-Hazards and Early Warning Center show that Cyclone Tej is intensifying and approaching Category 3 cyclone status. It currently sits about 500 kilometers away from Oman's nearest coast.

Evacuations and port shutdown

The Hallaniyat Islands and the coastal areas of Salalah, Rakhyut, and Dhalkot have been ordered to be evacuated by Oman's National Committee for Emergency Situations Management because of the impending storm. Starting on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. (1300 GMT), the Salalah port will be closed.

UAE Embassy Issues Cautions

Because of Cyclone Tej's impact on the Arabian Sea, the UAE Embassy in Muscat is advising its nationals living in Oman to exercise caution.

The cyclone's intensity grows into an "extremely severe cyclonic storm."

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Cyclone Tej, previously a depression in the Arabian Sea, has intensified into an "extremely severe cyclonic storm" near the coasts of Oman and Yemen.

Crossing Coasts on October 24

Known as a "very severe cyclonic storm," the cyclone is expected to make landfall between Al Ghaidah (Yemen) and Salalah (Oman) at about noon on October 24.

These weather conditions are expected to significantly impact the Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates. Omani authorities are taking all necessary measures to prepare and support operations in these areas affected by Cyclone Tej. The Ministry of Health has activated its 24-hour call center in readiness for the situation. Additionally, certain health centers will be temporarily closed. This weather event is not expected to directly impact the UAE but will result in the formation of cumulus clouds with associated rain in some parts of the country until October 24.
