Dubai Airport: Effortless Clearance for Passport Control in Seconds

Asma Ahmed - | Arab News

As the UAE's two-month summer hiatus draws to a close, airports throughout the nation gear up to receive a multitude of returning residents, leading to a significant surge in airport traffic.

3.3 Million Travelers are anticipated at DXB.

Dubai International (DXB), renowned as the world's largest airport, is bracing itself to accommodate a staggering 3.3 million travelers during the forthcoming 13 days.

Smart Gate Usage Streamlines Passport Control

Dubai International Airport has implemented efficiency-enhancing measures to speed up the passport control procedure for families. Smart gates are available to travelers 12 and older, drastically cutting down on the amount of time spent in line for passport control.

In the same manner, passengers between the ages of 4 and 12 have access to designated passport check desks, giving children the freedom to independently handle passport stamping.

Rapid Immigration with Smart Gates

Using smart gates, travelers may rapidly move through the immigration process, which takes only a few seconds. Astonishingly, 9 million passengers, or 36% of the 26 million who passed through DXB in the first half of the year—opted for the smart gate option, according to information released in June by the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA).

Who Can Utilize Smart Gates?

Smart gates cater to UAE and GCC citizens, residents, visa-on-arrival eligible individuals, and travelers with pre-issued visas. To avail of this convenience, passengers must be registered and exceed a height of 1.2 meters.

Easy Eligibility Verification

A novel feature on the GDRFA website empowers passengers to confirm their eligibility for smart gate utilization. The procedure is straightforward.

  1. Enter https://www.gdrfad.gov.ae/en/smart-gate-inquiry
  2. Write down your Emirates ID or passport number.
  3. Provide your date of birth and gender.
  4. Receive either a green message confirming registration or a red message indicating the need for registration to use smart gates.

As UAE residents make their way back home, the facilitation of smart gates promises to expedite their re-entry process, marking another step in Dubai's commitment to streamlined and efficient travel experiences.
