Emirates permits QR Code-based phone payments for public parking

More than 17,500 new signs have been installed in parking zones across Dubai by the Roads and Transport Authority.

The parking rates, operating hours, and payment options are all clearly displayed for drivers.

In addition to the SMS payment platform number, they also include QR codes for the authority's app and the messaging service WhatsApp.

According to the most recent data compiled by the authority, more than 80% of drivers prefer to pay parking fees using their smartphones or tablets.

There is also information regarding parking hours and data on the authority's Ramadan timings.

“The new signs have clear visibility at night and include four QR codes for payment options alongside the zone code, which make it easier for parking users to make direct payment through a number of channels," said Osama Al Safi, director of Parking, Traffic and Roads Agency.

As one of the largest cities in the United Arab Emirates, the Emirate of Dubai has a pressing need to manage its parking situation.

Note that in the Emirate of Dubai, parking lots have been assigned letters, and that inside each parking lot there are designated regions based on the population density in that particular region.

Within 500 metres of their homes, citizens can apply for up to five parking permits to use in public lots.

Dubai's transport authority website is where applications are taken.

This permission is good for one year and can be renewed if necessary.

Using Twitter, the RTA announced that citizens of the United Arab Emirates could get free permits to park in paid public lots within 500 metres of their homes in Dubai.
