While end-to-end encryption is already available on WhatsApp, the new chat lock feature adds an extra layer of security by letting users choose which conversations they want to hide from anyone else's access. WhatsApp is the most popular messaging app in the world, and the new chat lock feature is designed to help its users keep their messages and conversations private and secure.

All WhatsApp users on Android and iOS will soon be able to access this new feature, which requires authentication via passcode, fingerprint, or proper Face ID before allowing access to a discussion.

According to META's announcement, the WhatsApp chat lock feature will relocate locked conversation threads to a new location within the app, where notifications will no longer reveal the sender's name or provide a preview of the message; furthermore, media files will not be saved. According to gadgets360, these conversations are broadcast in real time on the mobile device's photo album.

You can now protect your conversations with a passcode, fingerprint, or even Face ID. Both the Android and iOS versions of WhatsApp have a chat lock option.

Users will need to update to the most recent version of WhatsApp from the App Store or Google Play Store to take use of the new functionality to lock chats and personal messages from prying eyes. Version 2.23.10.71 of WhatsApp for Android and Version 2.23.9.77 of WhatsApp for iOS both support the new feature.

Meta is working on introducing several new updates to the feature, such as creating custom passwords that are distinct from the passwords already in place to unlock Phone, where the social media company is also making the chat lock feature work across all companion devices where the WhatsApp account is active, so that private conversations in the locked folder can be transferred easily.
