Dubai International (DXB), renowned as the world's busiest international airport, faced significant challenges due to adverse weather conditions in recent days.
Following incessant rains on Tuesday, a total of 884 flights were canceled, and 46 flights were diverted from DXB. The flooding caused operational disruptions, prompting the airport to initiate measures to mitigate the impact within a 24-hour timeframe.
Despite the adversity, efforts are underway to restore normal operations. Collaborating with strategic partners and local authorities, DXB aims to expedite the recovery process. Passengers were advised to refrain from visiting Terminal 1 unless their flight status was confirmed by the respective airlines, as re-booking facilities were unavailable at the airport.
While inbound flights from international airlines resumed at Terminal 1 on Thursday, disruptions persisted due to the unprecedented weather conditions. Passengers were urged to only visit Terminal 1 if they had confirmed flight bookings, emphasizing the importance of prior confirmation to avoid unnecessary crowding.
Emirates Airlines extended the suspension of check-in services until 9 a.m. on Thursday due to operational challenges stemming from the adverse weather. Additionally, several foreign airlines, including EgyptAir and Sri Lanka Airlines, temporarily suspended flights until the runway conditions improved.
The heavy rainfall, described as the most severe in 75 years, led to widespread flooding across residential areas in Dubai, Sharjah, and Abu Dhabi. Consequently, the government advised private sector entities to facilitate remote work for employees, considering the challenges posed by submerged roads and inaccessible transportation routes.
DXB faced significant disruptions due to adverse weather, resulting in flight cancellations and operational challenges. Despite these obstacles, concerted efforts are underway to restore normalcy, prioritizing passenger safety and efficient airport operations within a limited timeframe.
