As an upgrading project is nearing completion by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), drivers in Dubai may anticipate a bit of respite when navigating the heavily populated districts of Al Wasl Road and Umm Suqeim Street.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has implemented enhancements aimed at alleviating congestion in the bustling areas of Al Wasl Road and Umm Suqeim Street, bringing relief to motorists navigating these busy thoroughfares.
A new junction has been inaugurated at the convergence of Al Majasimi and Al Wasl Road, strategically positioned between Umm Suqeim Street and Al Thanya Street, as announced on Tuesday by the RTA. This development includes the installation of traffic signals to facilitate smoother vehicular flow and the introduction of a new traffic stream at the intersection.
Notably, motorists can now execute left turns directly from Al Majasimi Street onto Al Wasl Road, eliminating the previous necessity of making a right turn onto Umm Suqeim Street followed by a subsequent U-turn on Al Wasl Road. This measure is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion at the intersection of Al Wasl Road and Umm Suqeim Street, both areas characterized by the presence of numerous shops and schools.
The implementation of this solution has significantly reduced travel time from Umm Suqeim 3 northward to Al Wasl Road, slashing it from three minutes to a mere 30 seconds. Furthermore, enhancements include the expansion of Al Majasimi Street, which has transitioned from a single-lane to a dual-lane configuration in each direction. This augmentation has effectively doubled the capacity of each lane, accommodating up to 2,400 vehicles per hour compared to the previous limit of 1,200 vehicles.
These infrastructure improvements mark a significant milestone in the RTA's Quick Traffic Improvements Plan 2024, demonstrating the authority's commitment to enhancing traffic efficiency and ensuring smoother journeys for motorists across Dubai's road network.
