UAE announces ban on importing some products from Pakistan
As a result of the importation of meat of a substandard quality, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates is said to have imposed limitations on frozen meat that enters the nation through sea, according to reports from the media in Pakistan.
The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan issued a statement saying that they are working hard to address the prohibition.
The embargo will remain in force until at least October 10; but, according to sources in the media, the United Arab Emirates would permit air shipment of beef from Pakistan as long as certain requirements are satisfied.
After the day the animal was slaughtered, the meat must be vacuum-packed and have a shelf life of between 60 and 120 days.
The Trade Development Authority of Pakistan released the following statement: "Initial investigations have revealed that the sub-standard quality of meat was allegedly due to inefficient / non-functionality of the refrigeration system installed in the reefer containers, which is a responsibility of the shipping lines."
"Also, it has come to our attention that the export companies in question have demanded compensation from the shipping line.
"The Pakistani Consulate in Dubai has been in contact with relevant parties in order to investigate the circumstances surrounding this regrettable occurrence. The mission will work to address the concerns raised by the UAE authorities while simultaneously advocating vehemently for the lifting of the ban.
The economic and Development Assistance Program (TDAP) underlined that it is dedicated to maintaining international standards of quality and safety while boosting economic links between Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates.
In the statement, it was said that they are "optimistic that through constructive dialogue and cooperation, both nations will find an amicable resolution that allows the resumption of fresh chilled meat exports from Pakistan to the UAE."
