The United Arab Emirates announces a holiday for more than a week on Eid al-Fitr

To commemorate the festival of Eid al-Fitr, the United Arab Emirates has declared a holiday that will last for more than a week

Every single one of us enjoys a public holiday, and this month we are getting ready to take a vacation that is quite significant.

The next official holiday in the United Arab Emirates will be Eid al-Fitr, which comes after Ramadan. Employees in the public sector have already been informed that they would leave their jobs for the whole week in order to celebrate the holiday.

Beginning on the 29th day of Ramadan and continuing until the third day of Shawwal, employees in the private sector will be eligible for a paid public holiday.

Although the 29th day of Ramadan will be on Monday, April 8, we are unable to declare with absolute certainty if Shawwal 3 will be on Thursday, April 11, or Friday, April 12, until we have determined whether Ramadan is a month with 29 or 30 days.

Monday, March 11, 2024 marked the beginning of the month of Ramadan, and Eid al-Fitr soon followed.

This year, the government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) announced the dates for the Eid al Fitr festival that would be observed in 2024. However, the official dates will be confirmed closer to the time by Moon sightings.

In the event that Ramadan is a month with thirty days, then all employees in the United Arab Emirates are eligible to take a full five days off from work. However, if Ramadan is a month with 29 days, then the vacation will begin on Monday, April 8, and continue until Thursday, April 11.

The least number of days off that we can anticipate is six, while the greatest number of days off that we can anticipate is nine. This is because the weekends on either side are included in the calculation.

  • Monday April 8 (Ramadan 29)
  • Tuesday April 9 (Ramadan 30 or Shawwal 1)
  • Wednesday April 10 (Shawwal 1 or 2)
  • Thursday April 11 (Shawwal 2 or 3)
  • Friday April 12 (Shawwal 3 or 4)

Time to save the dates and start some serious holiday planning.
