The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai has affirmed its commitment to supporting affected Filipinos in the wake of tragic events resulting from heavy rainfall in the UAE on April 16.

Regrettably, three Filipino individuals lost their lives, with one casualty in Dubai and two in Sharjah, as announced by the Philippine Consulate General (PCG) and a senior Filipino labor official from Manila.

Hans Leo Cacdac, acting head of the Philippine Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), expressed deep sorrow over the loss of three overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) during the flooding. Two OFWs succumbed to suffocation inside their vehicle amidst the deluge, while another OFW tragically perished in a vehicular accident. Although specific details regarding the victims' identities and the locations of the incidents were not disclosed, Cacdac emphasized that the DMW is fully committed to providing extensive support and assistance to their bereaved families.

The PCG received official confirmation from local police authorities regarding the unfortunate demise of three Filipino nationals, confirming the reported fatalities. A rain-damaged road in Dubai claimed the life of a 47-year-old Filipino male worker, and floodwaters trapped two Filipinas in Sharjah.

In response to these distressing events, the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai issued a statement, assuring the public of comprehensive efforts to aid affected Filipinos. The Consulate, alongside the Migrant Workers Office-Overseas Workers Welfare Association (MWO-OWWA), is closely collaborating with Dubai authorities to gather accurate information and deliver urgent assistance to affected individuals.

Regarding the reported deaths of Filipinos in Dubai, the Consulate is actively liaising with Dubai Police to ascertain details, including the cause of death, and extend necessary support to the next of kin. Additionally, the PCG is working in tandem with Filipino community organizations in Dubai to provide assistance to those impacted by the calamity.

Despite the challenges posed by canceled flights and stranded passengers, the Consulate remains dedicated to addressing the needs of affected individuals. Reports indicate that Filipinos, alongside other nationalities, are demonstrating solidarity by assisting each other, showcasing the enduring spirit of community volunteerism.

The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, in collaboration with relevant authorities and community organizations, is prioritizing the welfare of affected Filipinos and endeavoring to provide them with essential support during this challenging time.
