Police in Lethbridge have taken action against an individual who was caught on camera firing weapons from his vehicle.

The incident, reported on February 27, prompted the Strathmore RCMP to investigate a man who was filming a drive-by shooting using handguns and long guns. Following the initial reports, the Southern Alberta Crime Reduction Unit assumed control of the investigation.

Through their efforts, the authorities were able to identify the individual involved as Nicholas Bastaratch, a 20-year-old resident of Lethbridge. Bastaratch was linked to the incident, which raised serious concerns regarding public safety and the illegal use of firearms. In response, law enforcement officials took decisive steps to address the situation.

On March 8, a search warrant was executed at a residence located in the 100 block of 5th Street in Lethbridge. During the search, officers discovered a loaded handgun inside the premises, further solidifying the case against Bastaratch. The recovery of the weapon provided concrete evidence to support the charges that were subsequently brought against him.

Nicholas Bastarache now faces a series of charges related to his reckless behavior. Among the charges leveled against him are reckless use of a firearm, unsafe storage of a firearm, and possession of a firearm without a license. These charges underscore the seriousness of his actions and the potential dangers posed by his conduct.

The legal proceedings against Bastarache are set to unfold in the coming months. He is scheduled to appear in court in Strathmore on May 21, where he will be called upon to answer for his alleged offenses. The outcome of these proceedings will determine the consequences that Bastarache will face for his actions.

The swift and decisive response from law enforcement authorities highlights the commitment to maintaining public safety and upholding the law. By apprehending individuals who engage in illegal and dangerous behavior, the police send a clear message that such actions will not be tolerated in the community. Through diligent investigation and enforcement efforts, law enforcement agencies work tirelessly to safeguard communities and hold individuals accountable for their actions.
