Canada: Tragic Fire Claims Lives of Indian-origin couple and their daughter

An investigation into the cause of a house fire in Ontario is underway, and the authorities are appealing to the public for help. On Friday, police in Ontario's Brampton district reported that an adolescent daughter, a Canadian couple of Indian ancestry, and their home were destroyed in a fire last week.

A conflagration consumed a home situated at the intersection of Big Sky Way and Van Kirk Drive in Brampton on March 7, as outlined in a statement released by the Peel Police.

Subsequent to extinguishing the flames, investigators discovered what appeared to be human remains amid the ruins of the house, though the precise number of casualties was indeterminate at the time. However, the charred remains were later identified as those of three family members: Rajiv Warikoo, aged 51; his spouse, Shilpa Kotha, aged 47; and their 16-year-old daughter, Mahek Warikoo.

According to Peel Police Constable Taryn Young, the fire has been classified as suspicious, as reported by the CTV news channel on Friday.

Young mentioned, "We are presently probing this issue alongside our homicide division, and we have classified this occurrence as dubious, considering the determination by the Ontario Fire Marshal that this fire was not accidental."

Young further remarked on the challenging nature of determining the cause of the fire due to the extensive damage incurred.

Kenneth Yousaf, a neighbor of the deceased family, mentioned that the family had resided on the street for approximately 15 years without any apparent issues.

Yousaf recounted being alerted to the fire by a relative who heard a loud noise, describing the scene as distressing and noting the swift destruction of the home.

In a press statement, law enforcement affirmed their ongoing investigation into the deaths and implored individuals with relevant information to come forward, emphasizing the importance of community cooperation in resolving the matter.
