Environment Canada has warned of strong cold waves and extreme drops in temperatures in many Canadian provinces and cities this week.

Low temperatures in Ontario and Quebec

The ministry explained that some Canadian provinces will witness a drop in temperatures in Ontario and Quebec, in addition to a strong cold front in the Arctic sweeping south.

The Ministry of Environment Canada issued a warning to residents in Quebec about freezing weather, with temperatures dropping by 10 degrees on Friday.

Unstable weather in southern Ontario

In southern Ontario, the province will also witness volatile weather, which will lead to arctic fronts causing lake-shaped snow in the Gulf of Huron and Georgia.

It is also expected, according to Environment Canada, that some areas of Ontario will be exposed to a state of dense fog on Friday morning, including the Toronto, Hamilton, Kingston, Windsor and Niagara regions.

Rain and snow in Atlantic Canada

Environment Canada explained that rain and snow are also expected in Atlantic Canada, with warnings of rain ranging from 25 to 50 mm in marine areas.

Newfoundland and Labrador is also expected to see up to 100 milliliters of rain with wind gusts between 60 and 80 kilometers per hour from Friday night into Saturday, with freezing rain possible on the Avalon Peninsula on Friday.

Wind chill at 70 km/h in Yellowknife

The Ministry of Environment warned residents in the Northwest Territories of a severe storm, which also includes Yellowknife, with strong winds approaching 70 km/h and snow moving on Friday, topped with wind chills approaching -40.
