Citizens and residents subscribing to the fixed (landline) phone service asked to keep their phone numbers and code in case they moved from one region to another or from one emirate to another>

so that the fixed number is associated with the identity of the person like a mobile phone number, so that it is with him wherever he goes, unless It is easy to communicate even in the event of a change of residence.

They told «Emirates Today» that changing phone numbers and their code occurs automatically in the event that they move to live in another geographical area.

For its part, the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority said that the licensees' networks have been built according to the national number plan, which depends on each geographical area having a specific code, which makes it difficult to achieve this requirement in the current period.

In detail, the citizen Sultan Salem said, "He moved to a new house in a new area in Abu Dhabi, so his landline phone number and the code for the number were changed, which made communication with him and his family difficult on the part of many family and friends."

Salem demanded to keep his number and the code and not change them in the event of moving to another area, considering that the fixed phone number is associated with the identity of the person like a mobile phone, and that it be with him wherever he goes to facilitate communication even in the event of a change of residence.

For his part, citizen Saif Ali mentioned that his landline phone number and the special code were changed when he moved to live in a new house in one of the regions in the country, indicating that the code was changed according to the geographical area to which he moved.

Ali also demanded that the number be kept even in the event of a change of residence, pointing out that many families built part of their social relations many years ago on the landline phone next to the mobile phone.

Resident Lubna Abdel-Majid stated that after she and her family moved to live in a new house in an area far from her first place of residence, the landline phone number and the special code were changed, which made it difficult to communicate with neighbors, friends and family, in addition to the difficulty of communicating with some government agencies that communicate. with it across the straight line.

She stressed the importance of keeping the number, so that the fixed number is associated with the identity of the person like a mobile phone, so that it is with him wherever he goes, which facilitates communication even if his residence changes.

In turn, the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority said that there is a national plan for numbers that depends on the distribution of landline phone numbers according to the geographical area, so that each region or emirate has a specific code or code that differs from one region to another, and it is a recognized policy in all countries.

She added that networks for licensees have also been built, based on the National Numbering Plan, and it depends on each geographical area having a specific code, which makes achieving this requirement difficult in the current period.

And she stressed that nothing is impossible in the future, and that it is possible in the future for the customers of the two telecommunications companies in the country to keep their numbers and their code.
