The UAE government issues tax warning

UAE authorities have issued a directive urging taxpayers to promptly file their applications or face penalties. The Federal Tax Authority (FTA) has specifically targeted juridical persons residing in the country and falling under the corporate tax bracket.

Those with licenses obtained in January and February of any year are required to submit their corporate tax registration applications by May 31, 2024, to remain compliant with UAE tax regulations and avoid potential fines.

This mandate, outlined in FTA Decision No. 3 of 2024, effective March 1, 2024, underscores the necessity of adhering to specified timelines. Failure to submit registration applications within the stipulated period, as per Cabinet Decision No. 10 of 2024, will result in administrative penalties for the taxable entities.

The FTA's directive applies to both resident and non-resident juridical and natural persons. To facilitate compliance, stakeholders are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the Corporate Tax Law, accompanying guides available on the FTA website, and associated decisions.

Corporate tax registration is accessible through the EmaraTax digital platform, a process comprising four steps that takes approximately 30 minutes. Taxable individuals already registered for value-added tax (VAT) or excise tax can utilize their existing accounts on EmaraTax to complete the corporate tax registration process seamlessly.

For unregistered taxable entities subject to corporate tax, the creation of a new user profile on the EmaraTax platform is necessary. New users can initiate registration via the FTA e-Services portal, followed by identification verification and selection of the "Corporate Tax Registration" option.

To ensure accessibility and efficiency, the FTA permits the submission of corporate tax registration requests through various government service centers across the UAE. These centers offer electronic services managed by trained staff, ensuring quality service delivery.

Upon completion of the application process and verification of the entered data, FTA officers review the submissions. Successful applicants receive their Tax Registration Number (TRN) via email, confirming their registration for corporate tax purposes in the UAE. Compliance with these directives is crucial to avoid penalties and maintain legal standing within the UAE tax framework.
